  • This page is intended to provide IRFs guidance and support with the DiagnosticLink 8.17 crash behavior when attempting to connect to server.

 

Technical Support

Third party users with a P70 user ID may experience an error when connecting to the server with Diagnosticlink 8.17:

"DiagnosticLink has encountered an unexpected event"

Message: Encountered Unexpected Character '<',

As a workaround to the application crash behavior of DiagnosticLink® 8.17 for some P70* ID users, please follow these instructions:

  1. Close the DiagnosticLink® application if open
  2. From the downloads section to the right, download and save a copy of the  “config.xml” file to the folder path:  C:\ProgramData\Detroit Diesel\Drumroll\Application Data\Troubleshooting\en-US\Psl. (Note: If the ProgramData folder is not visible, click 'View' and check the option "Hidden Items').
  3. Restart DiagnosticLink® and the tool should behave as expected.

A permanent corrective action for this behavior will be provided with 8.17 SP1 early in 2023.
