DRS is a reprogramming application which includes support for Detroit legacy engines: EPA 98 - EPA 04 (DDEC III - DDEC V and MBE PLD, MR2, and VCU controllers). Vehicle parameters can be set such as road speed.
- DRS is accessible to 'authorized users' only. Non-authorized users requiring reprogramming support should contact the local dealer.
- DRS requires DiagnosticLink Professional to be registered prior to accessing the application.
- DRS is available to download from the ordering system via My Accounts > My Downloads (login required).
- Administrative rights are required (for installation only).
Getting Started
The DDEC Reprogramming System Windows is utilized to program/reprogram DDEC modules, display/edit customer parameters, and update module software.
The DDC Mainframe Communications Window is used to download or update DDEC calibrations to and from the server. This component includes logon parameter setup for DRS network options.
To configure:
- Click Windows Start, All Programs, Detroit Diesel, and DDC Mainframe Communications.
- Select 'Update Logon Parameters'.
- Enter your assigned DRS Application ID.
- Enter your 5-digit Dealer and Branch code associated with your DRS Application ID.
- Select 'Connect via Internet' and click Save
The DRS Comm Settings menu is used to select translator used to connect to DDEC and MBE Reprogramming.
To configure:
- Select J1708 from the Comms Protocol dropdown.
- Select your translator device such as the 'Nexiq USB-Link2' (requires a device driver to be installed).
- Select 9600 from the Baud Rate dropdown and click Ok.
The MBE Reprogramming menu is used to program PLD/MR2 and VCU modules. You can also change PLD/MR2 and VCU parameters.
Technical Support
This error indicates that DRS has failed authentication or failed to connect to server. Potential causes include: an incorrect DRS setting, incorrect password entry, network issue, or a security setting (e.g., firewall/proxy/anti-virus application) blocking access.
- Check DRS connection settings. Click Windows start button > Detroit Diesel > DDC Mainframe Communications > Update Logon Parameters. Verify the correct DRS Application ID entry and that 'Connect via Internet' is selected. Click Save and try again.
- Verify Network/Internet connection. If a network connection cannot be established, first resolve the network connection issue, and then restart the DRS application, and retry.
- Verify any Proxy logon requirements to access the Internet. If a proxy logon is required to access the Internet, first resolve the proxy logon (may require contacting your local IT support). Verify if any locally installed or network configured firewall or anti-virus programs are blocking access to the Detroit application server. If accessible, a common test includes temporarily disabling the security system or anti-virus program and re-test DRS connection. If DRS works after disabling security, contact your local IT Administrator for further assistance.
- Try running DRS with administrative permissions. DRS only requires administrative rights (for installation), but some unique Windows configurations and Group policy settings may restrict some DRS basic operations. Click Windows start button, Detroit Diesel, right-click DDC Mainframe Communications and select Run as Administrator. If the operation completes successfully, contact your local IT Administrator for further assistance.
- Verify access to the Detroit application server by entering the URL http://ddcapps.detroitdiesel.com into your web browser address (from the affected DRS workstation) and hit enter. The 'Detroit Diesel Webserver' should be displayed. If not, contact your local IT Administrator to resolve.
- If the problem persists, contact Software Support at 855-639-8680 or 248-957-2425 or email: softwaresupport@daimlertruck.com to verify if there are any known DTNA server related issues. It may also be worth having the DRS password reset to see if that resolves issue.
This error response may be associated with a common Windows concern in the following directory: C:\Windows\fonts\L002000d.ttf.
A common workaround is to install DRS in Windows Safe Mode. (Please consult your local IT Admin if you do not have access to Windows Advanced Startup Options).
To run setup in Windows Safe Mode:
- Abort the DiagnosticLink installation by clicking cancel.
- Safe Mode for Windows 10 (also works for previous Windows versions). Click Start and type msconfig in the search window and hit enter.
- Click the Boot tab and select /check Safe Mode and click Ok.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall DiagnosticLink 8 Setup.exe or DRSSetup.EXE (Admin Rights required).
- Once DRS 6 successfully installs, click Start and type msconfig in the search windows and hit enter.
- Click the Boot tab and uncheck Safe Mode and click Ok.
- Restart Windows to return to normal mode and register DiagnosticLink.
The errors: 'Failed to launch help', 'Feature not inlcuded', or 'Help not supported' refers to the legacy help file format .HLP that is no longer supported by Microsoft Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and Windows 10.

'The ECU Software Version is Invalid for the DDEC IV Hardware' error may indicate a problem with the ECU hardware. If the connection status is in Boot mode, the hardware may need to be replaced.
Check the connection status in the upper left corner of the DDEC Reprogramming Software screen while connected to the ECU:
(B) = Boot Mode
(R) = Run Mode
If the status reads Boot mode, the ECU may need to be replaced. To further test, try programming a test ECU.
This error may occur when DRS is missing customer logon information. A valid DRS Applicaiton ID must be entered to establish a server connection.
To resolve:
- From Windows start, go to All Programs, Detroit Diesel, and DDC Mainframe Communications.
- Select 'Update Logon Parameters'.
- Enter the DRS Application ID, Dealer & Branch codes, and select Connect via Internet.
